IATEFL Ukraine stands for the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language in Ukraine and our mission is to link, develop and support English Language Teaching professionals throughout the country.

Teacher Development Programme
September – December 2011

The British Council Ukraine, IATEFL Ukraine and the Institute for Innovative Technologies and the Content of Education invite applications for online and face-to-face Teacher Development courses. They will start as soon as the groups are formed, tentatively at the end of September. Face-to-face courses will be provided if we have enough applications from one and the same place.

A minimum level of English is indicated for each course according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

A certificate is issued after regular attendance and successful completion of all assignments.

TeachingEnglish TKT ESSENTIALS

This course provides teachers with an introduction to the basic theory associated with a communicative approach to English language teaching. Its structure and content are based on the syllabus of the Cambridge ESOL Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT). The course has three modules:

  1. Module 1 – language and background to language learning and teaching
  2. Module 2 – lesson planning and use of resources for language teaching
  3. Module 3 – managing the teaching and learning process

and is delivered in two parts: Part 1 – Module 1, Part 2 – Modules 2 and 3.

Minimum language level – B1.

TeachingEnglish ENGLISH FOR TEACHING

This is an in-service teacher development course which combines input on communicative, learner-centred methodology and topical ELT themes with a structured language syllabus to provide for progression from A2 to B1 (CEFR level). The focus is on developing linguistic competence and teaching expertise through a range of thematically linked tasks and activities providing models which can be adapted for classroom use.

Minimum language level – A2.

TeachingEnglish LEARNING TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE CLASSROOM

This is a teacher development course which aims to build English language teachers’ confidence and skill in the use of basic learning technologies. It covers the following areas:

  1. Office applications for whole-class teaching
  2. Evaluating and selecting websites and integrating the Web
  3. Skills development using the Web
  4. Ideas for school links projects

Minimum language level – B1.

TeachingEnglish PRIMARY ESSENTIALS

This is a development course for teachers of English working with young learners aged 5 to 12. It is based on the reflective approach, requiring active experimenting with teachers’ own teaching. The course consists of six modules and contains audio, classroom video and community elements.

Course structure and content:

  • Module 1 – Introduction
  • Module 2 – First steps in teaching children
  • Module 3 – Songs and games
  • Module 4 – Learning styles
  • Module 5 – Syllabus and lesson planning
  • Module 6 – Classroom management

Minimum language level – B1.

TeachingEnglish CERTIFICATE IN SECONDARY ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING 1 (CISELT 1)

This course is aimed at practising teachers with a level of English B1 and above and who work with learners in the 11-18 age range. It is a modular training course based on practical classroom methodology and assignments.

  • Module 1 – Getting Started
  • Module 2: Language Awareness
  • Module 3: Skills
  • Module 4: Core Classroom Issues

Minimum language level – B1.
