The International Association of Teachers of English

as a Foreign Language in Ukraine

IATEFL Ukraine stands for the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language in Ukraine and our mission is to link, develop and support English Language Teaching professionals throughout the country.

Hello, dear future IATEFL Summer School participant!

Yup, sure you will come next time! If you haven’t been there before, ask those who came this June-July, for instance – at least some of them came after having read last year SS participants’ memoirs.

Another reason of last year advertising campaign success - the huge number of applicants for SS this year. Have you read the excuses for those not accepted? But don’t you cry, if your application failed! Keep trying next time, I am going to ask some old IATEFLers - like me – to let other people go! Can not guarantee you anything though…

Well, so, what is the reason of success? People – one, place – two: that is all!
People:
- remember the names of our trainers (Sasha and Co)? This year their younger colleagues from L’viv and Kyiv joined – Nataliya Nayavko and Olena Kuzmenko.
- know the beauty of Ukrainian young ladies? Next time we should organize the beauty contest, I suppose. There were even some very elegant Ukrainian gentlemen! Too few for Mr-contest though…
Place:
Ever been to Verkhovyna? Read “My heart in the highlands” to feel it a bit.

What else?
1)The contents and spirit of the seminars – come and see them in our working places. As for me, for example, I learnt how to attract more people to my classes: my recipe - be less faultfinding and more self-critical.
2) British Council and IATEFL “nights” – very wise promotion. The result - now I am happy to have more IATEFL-brothers and sisters, sharing my love to British Council.
3) Out-of-schedule activities – museums (do you know about the existence of the “Shadows of forgotten ancestors” film museum, by the way?), hiking tours, kolybas.

To cut a long story short, let me use one of my trainer’s activities and try to make a portrait of the SS-2011 participant (trainers included):

I like the colour bright green (green, because young, bright - see 2 meanings of the word)
My favourite time of the day – any, if spent in a team
When I was at school, I was looking for summer holidays
I enjoy travelling, seeing (making) old (new) friends, sunny, but mild weather (Carpathian one, for instance)
I particularly dislike house-keeping
The kind of music I like best – the music of nature
I sometimes worry about my family
My biggest fear – loneliness
My ambition – to be Mr (Ms) Wanted by Everybody (except militia, of course)
I like people with a good sense of humour
People like me, because I am their buddy.

Dear participants and trainers, my sincere apologies, if you do not agree with the portrait: I was always bad at painting…

Join IATEFL Ukraine and stay with us and we’ll inform you about the future events!

See you next summer (or earlier?),
Artyom Teodorovich I
